The focus of the first appointment is twofold. Your psychologist will ask you questions in order to start understanding who you are as a person and the issues that you may be experiencing. An equally important focus is for you to determine whether your psychologist is a good fit to work with. You need to feel comfortable with your psychologist in order for therapy to be effective. You can expect this and other sessions to be fifty (50) minutes in length. Please feel free to ask your psychologist questions at any time in the therapeutic process.
Your privacy is of utmost importance to us and your information is kept confidential. We are legally obligated to release certain information under specific limited circumstances. These limits of confidentiality will be reviewed with you at your first appointment, or please contact our office for further information.
Psychologists do not prescribe medication. We are happy to communicate with prescribing physicians to provide collaborative and complete care at the request of our clients.
Psychologists are regulated health care professionals who are registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. The clinicians at London Psychological Services have completed their PhD in clinical psychology, which includes an average of 7 years of graduate training. In Ontario, the terms “therapist” and “counselor” are not regulated titles, and the onus is on the client to ensure that their service provider has the appropriate training and experience. Often benefit plans will only reimburse for services provided by registered professionals, such as psychologists.
